Assalammualaikum dan Salam Sejahtera|
A two-day visit by Port of Tanjung Pelepas Sdn. Bhd. (PTP) to Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) under the CEO@Faculty Programme has further reinforced strategic collaboration between academia and industry in the maritime and logistics sectors.
The highlight of the visit was the CEO Talk delivered by Mr. Mark William Hardiman, Chief Executive Officer of PTP and CEO@Faculty member for UMT, titled “Leading PTP Forward: Powered by People, Technology & Process.” The session drew nearly 200 students and staff, providing valuable insights into PTP’s leadership direction and future strategies in the logistics industry.
The event also marked the commencement of the Teaching Port Programme between UMT and PTP, a flagship initiative that exemplifies the Industry On Campus (IOC) concept by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). The programme provides students with real-world learning experiences and exposure to port operations, bridging academic knowledge with practical industry skills.
During the strategic discussion session, both UMT and PTP identified key focus areas to strengthen collaboration, including:
1) Enhancing the Teaching Port Programme as a continuous learning and industry-based training platform.
2) PTP’s expressed interest and support to join the MRI3: Logistics Consortium (Malaysia Logistics Consortium – MLC) as an active industry partner, with a proposal for UMT to also involve MMC Group in this initiative.
3) Expanding opportunities under the Work-Based Learning (WBL) framework to offer more UMT students hands-on experience in port operations.
UMT extends its sincere appreciation to PTP for the continued partnership and contribution towards nurturing future-ready maritime and logistics talents.
