14 October 2025 | Monitoring Visit to Marine Aquaponics Polyculture Project by the Malaysian Ministry of Finance

Assalammualaikum dan Salam Sejahtera|

The Malaysian Ministry of Finance (MOF) has conducted a monitoring visit to the Marine Aquaponics Polyculture Project located in Teluk Ketapang, Kuala Nerus, Terengganu.

This innovative project was developed by researchers from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and combines marine shrimp farming systems with seaweed cultivation in an integrated polyculture approach. This effort is one of the community empowerment initiatives to increase the income and economic well-being of target groups, especially the visually impaired in Categories B2 and B3.

Through the simultaneous harvesting approach, this project is able to produce double yields from two main commodities, thus contributing to the development of a more inclusive, sustainable and competitive community.

This project is led by a team of researchers led by Ts. Dr Wan Adibah Wan Mahari from the Institute of Tropical Aquaculture and Fisheries (AKUATROP), UMT.
